Learn to Fly!

Imagine having the splendor of New England at your beck and call. Imagine being able to leave your house and be on Martha’s Vineyard in less than two hours. Imagine the feeling of accomplishment that comes from learning to fly.

Flying airplanes is a lot less expensive than most people realize. To find out more, either give us a call or stop by. We’re more than happy to give you a tour of our facility and/or a very affordable discovery flight. As a hobby or career, we can help you attain your goals.  There’s even a new pilot license now available, called Sport Pilot, and you can get your license in significantly less time (and money!).

If you’re interested in a pilot career, stop by for a free consultation with one of our flight instructors.  We’ll explain the training process, license requirements, financing, job opportunities and various other details. The job prospects are great -- now is a perfect time to explore pilot careers whether charter, corporate, or the airlines.

To arrange for a tour or discovery flight call us at (207) 324-8919 or e-mail John.  Remember that a discovery flight makes a great birthday, holiday, graduation, or anniversary gift for that special person.  Gift certificates are available.  Check out our Prices Page for details and our Aircraft page for information on our fleet.

How Much Time Does it Take / What Does it Cost?

Getting your private pilot’s license requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight training, although 60-65 hours is more typical.  If you fly two hours every week and study in-between lessons, you can have your license in 6-8 months. Or you can spread it out over time and enjoy each lesson, each one not costing much different than a ski trip or night out to a concert or ball game. The sport pilot’s license requires 20 hours of training, although 35-40 hours is more common.

The total cost to get your license varies, but some typical scenarios are shown below:

Private

Sport

Airplane rental

 $6600
60 hours @ $110/hr

 $3325
35 hours @ $95/hr

 $800
20 hours @ $40/hr

TOTAL

 $8600

 $4925

You can definitely cut the total time requirement if you fly more frequently, but these are based on national averages and are meant to be realistic estimates.  Ask us for advice on how to make your training more affordable!
